How the production started..

In 1962 Ken Kesey wrote a book about his experiences in a mental institution and called it "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's nest".
It then became a play on Broadway after it was adapted from the book by Dale Wasserman and starring Kirk Douglas as R.P.McMurphy, suffice to say it wasn't a huge hit.
Kirk Douglas liked it so much he bought the rights to the play and started trying to get a production deal to make a movie version starring himself.
A few years went by with no interest. Eventually he passed it on to his son Michael Douglas who was then starring in hit T.V series "The Streets Of San Francisco"
Michael Douglas along with Producer Saul Krantz set the wheels in motion and finally got the picture deal, only he didn't use his father and instead chose Jack Nicholson to play R.P.McMurphy, with Milos Foreman Directing.
In the book and the play version the central role was The Chief who narrated the story in a series of voiceovers. However Milos Foreman wanted R.P.McMurphy to be the central character and at first asked Ken Kesey to write the screenplay but didn't use it because it was too much like the book. So they hired Laurence Haubem and Bo Goldman to write it which is the version they used. The film was released in 1975.

Alan and Phil both seen the film when it was released in the U.K at about the same time. Although they didn't know each other then, the film had a profound effect on the both of them that would eventually bring Alan and Phil to work together in the future.

Alan and Phils story.

Alan has been involved in Film and Theatre for twenty years and has been writing for thirty years. His first venture was in Musical Theatre with "LIVE" productions of "The Wall" by Pink Floyd and "Tommy" by The Who.
He then got into filmmaking after writing his first screenplay and formed his own company Zuma Productions. After numerous film projects he turned his hand back to theatre Producing and Directing different projects.
But through all this time he always wanted to put on "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" film version on stage. So after what has been a few busy years he finally had the time to do it. So he did the usual ad in the paper looking for people who were interested in taking part.

Phil has been a martial arts instructor for many years before becoming involved in filmmaking and photography in the early eighties. He then appeared in the T.V. series "The Experiment" as Prisoner 146. A reality show which looked into the work of Philip Zimbardo a reknowned psychologist who has since become a very good friend of Phil's.
Phil did extra work in films such as "Millions", "Alfie", and "Revolver"
He then Wrote, Produced, Directed and Edited a short film "There But For Grace Of God Go I" about life on the streets, which led on to him making his Documentary about the homeless called "Invisible People"
Phil has also filmed his travels to every Liverpool in the World of which there are ten. He will be making the Documentary to be released on T.V.

In February 2007 Phil seen the ad in the local paper for "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest" and contacted Alan.
After meeting and discussing the project they decided that Phil would Produce and Alan would direct .
There then followed the business of casting the play.
